Benefits of working with Cinderlane

Why Cinderlane

What you gain from a practice with a clear, narrow scope

Family business operational advisory works best when it does not try to do everything. Cinderlane is deliberately limited in scope — and that limitation is what makes it useful.

Six things that distinguish how Cinderlane works

Scope that is genuinely held

We state clearly what we work on and what we do not. Operational matters only — legal and financial topics are referred out. This is not a limitation we apologise for; it is the basis of the arrangement.

Written summary included

Every engagement comes with a written output — a review summary, a session record, or call notes. The written record is not optional. It is part of what you are paying for.

Priced without ambiguity

All three services carry a stated price in Singapore dollars. There are no variable fees, no scope creep by default, and no arrangements that require you to keep paying without knowing what for.

Both family and non-family views

Our Operational Review includes perspectives from senior non-family staff as well as family members. Operational clarity in a family business usually requires more than one point of view.

Unhurried pace

We do not push for conclusions before the conversation is ready. The Sounding-Board in particular is designed to allow time for operational questions to be explored rather than resolved under pressure.

Discreet by design

Family business conversations are personal. We handle everything discussed — spoken and written — as confidential. Non-disclosure arrangements are available on request before any engagement begins.

Expertise

Years spent inside family business conversations, not observing them from outside

The advisors at Cinderlane have spent substantial time working alongside Singapore family businesses — not in a legal or accounting capacity, but in a sustained operational one. This means familiarity with the particular dynamics of businesses where the personal and the professional are never entirely separate.

That familiarity shapes how we listen, how we write, and how we refer. It is not a credential that appears on a wall; it is something that becomes apparent in conversation.

Process

A structure that follows the business, not the other way around

Each of our three services has a defined structure: the Operational Review runs over four weeks, the Council Facilitation session takes half a day, and the Sounding-Board runs on a monthly basis. Within those structures, the content follows what the business actually needs — not a standard framework applied regardless of context.

We write up what was said, not what a template suggests should have been said. The written output reflects the specific business, not a generic family business.

Service quality

Engagement that does not feel like consulting

Many family businesses find large consulting arrangements difficult to work with — not because the advice is poor, but because the format does not suit the way the business actually makes decisions. Cinderlane works differently. Conversations happen at the pace of the business. Written materials are short enough to be read and used.

The Sounding-Board in particular is designed for senior leaders who want a consistent outside voice available, rather than an intermittent large engagement that arrives and departs.

Value

Stated prices, defined outputs, no ambiguity

The Operational Review is S$890. The Council Facilitation session is S$230. The Sounding-Board is S$420 per month. These are the prices, and they include the written outputs described in the service. There are no additional charges for the written summary or the call notes. What is described is what is delivered.

For businesses that have found professional services difficult to budget for — or that have been surprised by costs that were not clearly stated at the outset — this clarity is itself a practical benefit.

What sets us apart

Distinctive features of the Cinderlane arrangement

The initial conversation costs nothing

Before any engagement begins, we offer a brief initial conversation at no charge. This allows both parties to assess whether the arrangement is a practical fit — without any obligation to continue. Most family business advisors bill from the first contact.

A standalone session is available

The Council Facilitation session is a complete, standalone half-day engagement. There is no requirement to take on a larger or longer arrangement first. Businesses that need support for a single council session can engage Cinderlane just for that purpose.

Non-disclosure before engagement, on request

If confidentiality needs to be formally established before the first conversation, we put a non-disclosure arrangement in place before beginning. This is available on request and at no extra charge.

Written materials handled with care and not retained

Materials shared with us ahead of calls or sessions are not retained after the engagement concludes. We handle them with care during the engagement and do not keep copies once the relationship ends.

If any of the above sounds like it might be useful for your business, the most practical next step is a brief conversation. We will listen carefully and say clearly whether we think we can be helpful.
